Taxi drivers in the Northern region are to operate without paying any revenue to the government.
The drivers are unhappy with the operations of commercial tricycles in the area. They say the local government has refused to hear them out on the matter.
They tell rawgist.com the Regional Security Council promised to do something about the operations of the tricycles by the end of March but nothing has changed.
They say the tricycles are costing them their business as no revenues are charged the tricycle operators. They therefore operate cheaply; a situation that is affecting their business badly. For that reason, they have vowed to operate without paying VAT, DVLA and other local tolls.
The coalition of taxi drivers in the northern region staged a demonstration last year November against the operation of the tricycles popularly known as yellow yellow or Nahi Nahi.
According to them, the LI stated that no tricycle should be used as a commercial van, these yellow yellow are operating freely without paying Vat, white papers, and licences.
“These vehicles have been given to school children who have no road experience and also overload.”
The Association therefore petitioned the Regional Minister Alhaji Limuna Muniru to see to the problems.
They went futher to the District Chief Executive, Abdul Rahman Hanan Gundaado who took the issue to a REGSEC meeting
