Deputy Ashanti regional Minister, Joseph Yammin has laughed in derision over comments made by Ashanti NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako regarding the forthcoming congress of the ruling party.
Chairman “Wontumi” as he is popularly called according to a Daily Guide Newspaper story said he will ensure the election of his favourites to steer the affairs of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the congress slated for December 13.
“Only the NDC members that have my support would receive colossal votes from the party’s delegates at the congress grounds”, he is quoted as saying.
Former Ashanti regional Secretary of the NDC, Joseph Yammin however thinks the comment is one to amuse one’s self with. He says Chairman “Wontumi” is not a formidable threat to the fortunes of the NDC in the region and adds that “if he has any ability, it should rather be aimed at re-organizing his party which is divided along Nana Addo/Alan Kyeremateng lines of which he (Chairman Wontumi) is with Nana Addo”.
“After all we also supported him during his contest and that suggests we decided for the NPP. I openly campaigned for him and several others during their contest so it’s not news when he has preferences in our race but to say he is the one determining who wins is loose talk. Talk is cheap”, Joseph Yammin told rawgist.com in an exclusive interview.
When asked if the NDC will take pains to investigate who the NPP Chairman’s favourites were, the Deputy Ashanti Minister answered in the negative explaining that it’s not important at all.
He also reminded Chairman “Wontumi” that the President does not need to have “favourites among the executives” to take charge of the party as the constitution gives him the leadership role as the President of the Republic, describing his assertions against the President as baseless.
Joseph Yammin describes Bernard Antwi-Boasiako as an over-hyped attention seeking person adding that “he should know there is a silent force stronger than him working to retain them in opposition”.
