Ghana’s leading telecommunications network MTN has began an annual 21 day period of staff volunteerism intended to brighten the lives of underprivileged individuals and under-resourced institutions. MTN undertakes this programme every year from 1st June to 21st June.
MTN’s Y’ello Care Programme which was launched Wednesday at MTN’s Nhyiaeso Office in the Ashanti regional capital brought together stakeholders and beneficiaries including the Edwinase Rehabilitation Centre.
General Manager for MTN’s Northern Business District; James Basintale revealed that the theme for this year’s y’ello Care programme is “Investing in Education for all” and explained that the repeated theme emphasizes MTN’s commitment to improving education in Ghana. He adds that this year’s Y’ello Care programme is particularly special because it coincides with MTN’s 20th anniversary celebration in Ghana.
Some of the past Y’ello Care events included such activities as tree planting exercises, painting of schools, career guidance programmes, malaria sensitization and donation of treated bednets, construction of ICT libraries, stocking of public libraries, construction of sheds for schools under trees among many others. Y’ello Care 2016 will see such projects as the provision of DSTV Resource Centres which comprise TV sets, DSTv decoders with educational bouquets to various schools. Library projects and reading clinics will also be undertaken among several donations to under-resourced schools.
For his part, Centre Manager for the Edwinase Rehabilitation Centre; Modestus Ayiwole expressed gratitude to MTN for her continuous support that has brightened the lives of students of the rehab. He was especially happy that his institution was again going to be a beneficiary of MTN’s Y’ello Care programme.
