The Suame Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party,(NPP) has described as ‘immature and infantile’ allegations that its experienced Member of Parliament, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu was seeking to delete the names of both Ewes and Northerners from the voter list of Suame.
The party also described threats by Koku Anyidoho, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress,(NDC) to flood Suame Constituency with stoutly build men a.k.a ‘machomen’ during the upcoming registration exercise as a display of immaturity.
The party, shell shocked by the claims made against its MP and the minority leader in Parliament last week by the NDC said it was only amazed at the ‘crass ignorance’ demonstrated by Koku Anyidoho.
REBUTTAL:
Addressing a hugely patronized press conference at the party’s constituency office in Suame, Dr Osei Bobie, Communications Officer for the Suame NPP flanked by Kennedy Atta Marfo, Constituency Chairman for NPP stressed that no single individual nor party could physically or practically remove the names of people from the electoral register as being bandied about by the fear stricken NDC.
According to him, only the Electoral Commission,(E.C) could delete the names of persons they deem unfit to be on the voters register.
Even that, the Communications Officer intimated the E.C could only carry out such move if they found out that the person is actually dead, having proof that the person is under age or haven engaged in double registration.
EXPLANATION:
Stating the facts, Dr Bobie disclosed the Minority Leader as a custom by any rational MP commissioned a research into people registered on the voter list of the Suame constituency so he could start strategic campaign in preparation towards the upcoming National Polls.
This legitimate duty, he said was what the two people including a 65year old native of the Upper East Region, Derrick Naab Dakora and one mechanic Owusu Yeboah both residents and members of the research team were doing until some strange characters belonging to the NDC accosted and beat them to pulp.
He noted the two were beaten on suspicion of deleting names of persons from the Volta and Northern Regions.
Dr Bobie also clarified that except the two of them who were assaulted, nowhere was the Constituency Chairman, Mr Kennedy Atta Marfo found to be engaging personally in any act that warranted his name to be trumpeted by the NDC as flouting any law.
DEFIANCE:
The NPP, the Communications Director maintained cannot be cowed into submission by acts of threats or intimidation.
However, he stressed the party would be guided by the laws governing elections as it goes about its legitimate duties since election was not a display of muscles but brain power.
