Ghana News–The former President, John Dramani Mahama has slammed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for impoverishing Ghanaians especially the people of the Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti Region, Mr Mahama noted is experiencing the worst form of economic hardship since it is the very place vigorous commercial activity previously took place.
Currently, the former Ghanaian leader noted that residents including traders and commercial workers have been crying for lack of money in the businesses they are trading in.
Addressing a massive crowd in Kumasi at the Asawase Park where the party held its Unity Walk this weekend, the former President urged the NPP government to humbly learn from the NDC how businesses grew within their term in office.
‘’Kumasi is the center for economic activity and when you are performing well they are first to see but what we are seeing in Kumasi is only despondency and hardship’’, the former President posited.
GENERAL SECRETARY:
Speaking at the grounds, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressed surprise at the abysmal performance of the NPP in the almost two years they have been in office.
According to him, it is befuddling that the NPP is backtracking in all the juicy promises they made prior to the 2016 election where they claimed to put a million dollars in each constituency for development projects.
He wondered why programs such as one district one factory as well as one village one dam are becoming white elephants despite the NPP promising to implement same in their first year.
The NDC Secretary asked Ghanaians to reject the NPP in 2020 since from all indications they lied to get into power as they are now under-delivering on the mandate given them.
CHIEF WHIP:
Muntaka Muhammed Moburak, Minority Chief Whip in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Asawase teased the NPP for neglecting the Ashanti Region, a place which by voting pattern is their stronghold.
According to him, it is a pity that none of the bad roads in the region has seen an inch of repair or re-gravelling even when they claimed in opposition they would do all roads when they won power.
He asked the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako to stop targeting the Asawase Parliamentary seat and look elsewhere if the NPP really wants to win any NDC held parliamentary seat in Ashanti.
The Chief Whip claimed he has trained about 10 strong and knowledgeable people to take over from him when he finally bows out of parliament.
