Youth group angry at President; threaten demo over school feeding grants

school-feedingA youth group; the Progressive Youth Alliance has accused President John Mahama of lacking the will to support the education of theh less privileged due to the government’s failure to consistently and in a timely manner release feeding grants to enable poor kids remain in school.

A statement issued by the group accused the President of particularly ignoring kids in the three northern regions; a situation they say is the cause of many kids dropping out of school.

“This condition is terrible and this is having negative impacts on the academic standard of the students in this part of the country and generally, the socio-economic development of the three northern regions”.

The group believes the Mahama government’s failure to release feeding grants consistently and in a timely fashion does not only affect the kids’ education but also the socio-economic development of the three northern regions. To this end they have given the government up to Friday June 17, to release the grants or face a demonstration from various pressure groups.

They believe a timely release of the grants will save a lot of pupil’s education and consequently  secure their future.

GET THE SHS STUDENTS IN THE THREE NORTHERN REGIONS BACK TO THE CLASSROOM NOW!

It hurts badly to see the manner at which President Mahama and his NDC has treated SHS students in the three northern regions.

One wouldn’t understand why the feeding grants which should be released continually by government, in order to keep our younger brothers and sisters in school are always delayed and even in most cases like now, takes months and public outcry before the funds are released.

This attitude of the NDC government and president Mahama’s lack of will to support our less privileged brothers and sisters doesn’t only affect academic performance adversely, but, eventually leads to most students dropping out of schools.

Sometimes, we wander whether or not is this same president who enjoyed such policy during his school days at Tamale Senior High School?
We don’t seem to get the motivation behind President Mahama continually ignoring the timely release of the feeding grants.

This condition is terrible and this is having negative impacts on the academic standard of the students in this part of the country and generally, the socio-economic development of the three northern regions.

The progressive youth Alliance can’t fold it arms to watch these forms of neglect by the government to continue. We thereby, call on all the youth groups, civil society organizations in the three northern regions to rise and speak against this insensitive and neglect spelt out to our SHS Students by president mahama and his government.

We should all admit that, the government’s lack of will to release the feeding grants timely is not only affecting students, but, equally the socio-economic development of the entire Northern society.

We want the government to know that, the progressive Youth alliance will not hesitate to stage a demonstration against the Mahama government, if they don’t release the feeding grants to the schools before Friday, the 17th June, 2016: to get our younger brothers and sisters back to the classroom as early as possible

Signed……
