Youth group hits National House of Chiefs with Petition and over 300,000 signatures for new voters register

A youth group; Concerned Youth for Progressive Ghana has sent a petition to the National House of Chiefs emphasizing the need for a new voters’ register.

CYPG-petitionThe statement which was accompanied by a document bearing over three hundred thousand (300,000) signatures of Ghanaians who want a new register explained that the will of the people of Ghana cannot be toyed with and warned of possible violence if the government continues to turn a blind eye and deaf ears to cries of the people.

“Ghana narrowly escaped post election violence in 2012 when the elections had to be decided by the Supreme court as a result of many electoral malpractices that allegedly occurred in the 2012 elections. The highest court of the land took more than eight months to settle that dispute”.

Founder of the group; Jamaludeen Abdullah, tells rawgist.com the signatures attached to the petition is to create the awareness that the group is not echoing the sentiments of any political party but rather the sentiments of the masses.

He calls on all chiefs and other stakeholders to add their voices to their call to ensure a credible voters register for the 2016 general elections
