About 213 sanitation guards from the 13 districts in the Upper East region have threaten to lay down their tools if waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana does not pay them their allowances.
According to them they have been working for the past ten months without pay, adding that all efforts to compel the company to pay them have proved futile.
Some of the sanitation guards speaking to Citi News said they are struggling to feed their families; “what do we tell our families?” They said they are fed up with the assurance from the regional outfit of Zoomlion and warned the company to pay them by December, or they will lay down their tools.
“We are appealing to Zoomlion Ghana to pay us our allowances which is GHC100.00 even if they cannot pay all the 10 months, they should make part payment for our survival, things are really hard for us,” one of the workers lamented.
District leaders’ for the sanitation guards who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear victimization said the last time they saw an increment in their allowance was a Ghc30 increase about three years ago. They are therefore appealing for an increase in their salary as well.
But the Upper East Regional Coordinator of Zoomlion Mr. John Oti who did not deny the claims by the sanitation guards told Citi News that he will only respond to the matter if Citi FM discloses the names of the sanitation guards.
